Today we will look at a scripture found in Psalm 150 which I believe is one that most have read or heard preached any number of times. But I also believe that in the times which we are living it is a Psalm worth hearing and reflecting upon again.
Psalm 150:1-6 reads: “1Praise the Lord. Praise God in his sanctuary; praise him in his mighty heavens. 2Praise him for his acts of power; praise him for his surpassing greatness. 3Praise him with the sounding of the trumpet, praise him with the harp and lyre. 4praise him with tambourine and dancing. 5praise him with the clash of cymbals. 6Let everything that has breath praise the Lord. Praise the Lord.”
This Psalm tells us a number of ways in which to praise our Lord and where to do it. I think we would all agree that we should praise God in the sanctuary of our church. But also in our homes and other places in which we feel safe in these uncertain times. We also acknowledge his acts of power and surpassing greatness which is evident in these times that we are living. Now when we are to praise him with the sounding of trumpets and the harp and lyre, tambourine and dancing that is another story. I am not saying that we shouldn’t praise him in those manners. But it wouldn’t be a joyful thing to see me praising in that manner. We should praise Him in the leading of His Holy Spirit.
Verse 6 says it best for me. “Let everything that has breath praise the Lord. Praise the Lord.” The God that has created you and me has given each of us breath which we can use to give our Lord the praise which He deserves. He has given us the church in which we can go and worship in song and in His word to lift Him up, but not Him alone others as they hear us sing praises and share testimonies of His goodness in our lives. But it shouldn’t stop at the church doors when we leave church on Sunday. We can praise our Lord at work, with a neighbor, on vacation and with our families. This is the short list of places in which we can share the goodness of our Lord. Really anywhere we go we can give praise to our Lord.
So in these uncertain times look to the Lord and ask for help through the Holy Spirit in giving praise to God. Ask for more boldness in sharing how you love your Lord and what He has done for you. Let us not fall short in letting our Lord and others know about the awesome God which we serve.
One last scripture which ties into what I have shared today. 1 Peter4:11: “If anyone speaks, he should do it as one speaking the very words of God. If anyone serves, he should do it with the strength God provides, so that in all things God may be praised through Jesus Christ. To him be the glory and the power for ever and ever.”
Praise the Lord for this day, it is good to back in Maryland and able to share with you good people. May you have a blessed day. Look forward to seeing you on Sunday.
